Very few films post-sexual revolution have captured even a mere prism of the such heady cultural reverb in suburban America like Anna Biller's 2007 film, VIVA. While Biller would garner a lot more press and love for THE LOVE WITCH, it is VIVA that owns my heart, lock and stock. Which is why when I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to record a solo commentary for Shameless Films Blu-ray release of the film, I was on it like white on rice! (Trivia Moment: While my solo recording for Command Cinema's FIRESTORM was the first to be released, VIVA was actually the first one I recorded. Also, FIRESTORM is amazing and you can purchase it here.)
If you love auteurs, sexploitation cinema with witty and cultural-political edges, plus musicals, then you must check out VIVA!
